03.31.05

March ended up being a fantastic month. I met so many great people, and I’m looking forward to some collaborations in the months to come!

I also have a new “re-mercial” to post, but I will wait until April 1st, as it only seems appropriate. It is very silly, yet I find my self watching the WHOLE thing every time I look at it, even though it’s 3:27 minutes long! I am mesmerized by it! I don’t know what my problem is. LOL.

See you in April!

03.24.05

Added a new clip: BUSTER TEASER on the VJ scobot page.

I’m starting to upload shorter clips in an attempt to provide more clips, more often (plus, you won’t have to sit through a 5 minute mix if you don’t want to!). I may, on occasion, create longer clips, but put them in a special section – for hard-core fans! Lol.

03.23.05

Look for a new “tag” in the info area of my clips. I decided this might be helpful to explain how the clips were created.

The tags are:

LM: “Live Mix” (Recorded live, improvised to a DJ or live band)
LM+R: “Live Mix + Rehearsed” (Recorded live, but rehearsed or planned ahead of time)
LM+E: “Live Mix + Edited” (Recorded live, then edited, recomposited or new audio added)
SR: “Show Reel” (Compilation of clips from different shows or films)

Got the video footage from the latest gig, thanks to Jason Hill. Hopefully, in the next week or so, I will have some new “LIVE” VJ scobot stuff for you to check out!

03.15.05

Been busy making “loops” and thinking about “Art”.

I have to let the VCR run while I’m watching TV now, since I’m starting to see movies/film in 3 second "moments". (You know, there are some fantastic images/motions used in commercials! I had no idea until I started to break them down. I’ve been remixing a Mazda commercial and having a delightful time.) The “idea” that everything has the potential to be remixed is a little overwhelming though, lol! (Sometimes, I’d like to just “watch” something without thinking about it. I think that’s why I like watching sports! Though I’m starting to think about remixing that too! Aarrg!)

About ten years ago, when the cable TV channel "American Movie Classics" used to show great movies (without commercials!), they ran a Buster Keaton marathon of shorts and features (including a great documentary). I recently found my VHS tapes of these movies and to say I have been having a blast, would be an understatement! As you all know, Buster Keaton is a true ARTIST in every sense of the word. It has been awe inspiring to work with his material. It is so amazing to break down his performances into tiny loops of motion and then “re-animate” them. It is a fascinating process that I look forward to sharing with you at my next show/event (or short film).

One of the things I enjoy most about creating this type of artwork, is the magic that happens when I start to play these clips “live” and the patterns and subtleties of the motions are revealed. It’s motions within motions, almost like a fractal equation, the motions go deeper and deeper, repeating themselves. It has definitely changed the way I view this living, breathing, MOVING world of ours. I know I have a long way to go before I am able to communicate that feeling, but that is what I’m striving to do. (Hey, that sounds like a “mission statement” !LOL)

Both shows last week were a blast!

Wednesday, 03-02-05
The Seattle Art Museum (click here for info about the event):

DJ EZ-ACTION was great. I really enjoyed VJ-ing along to his music.

The folks at SAM set up a projector that created an image that must have been 20’ high! It was VERY cool to see my clips that large! You can’t beat playing at an art museum!

Friday, 03-04-05
CoCA (click here for info about that event):

Another great experience! I met so many nice people, who had such nice things to say to me. Thank you! It is such a thrill for me when people enjoy what I am doing. It’s the best feeling ever. There really is nothing else like it!

Awesome music by DjMb, Carlos da Silva, and The Apartment. They inspired me to VJ all night! (four hours straight!) What can I say? I had a great time!

Special thanks to Kate Seekings for organizing two great events. She makes it so easy and is a pleasure to work with. If you ever get a chance to work with her…do!

Special thanks again to my dear bud, Jason Hill, for setting up a video camera and filming Friday’s show! You kick ass!

Watch the website for new films from Friday’s show!
